The Finance Trail

From your first budget to financial independence—one step at a time.

Just Start

When I first started budgeting I didn’t have everything figured out. I didn’t know what tool I was going to use, how detailed it would be or what the purpose of it was. I just felt that my money basically evaporated each month and I didn’t know where. And it didn’t matter how many raises I got at work – it was never enough, I could never build any kind of emergency fund. And I just got tired of it. I just knew that if I didn’t start, I’d stay stuck and I didn’t like the sound of that.

I believe blogging will be similar. I have had this idea in my mind for years. To blog about my experience in the hope of helping others in the same situation, but mainly to get my thoughts out there so I can reference them later (especially when I wander of track with my budgeting and need to start over).

So I will just start! I’m going to blog about my journey from simple budgeting to financial freedom. I believe that will hold me accountable to take charge of my finances and build enough personal wealth so I can live comfortably. That is my goal at the moment, but we will see where this journey takes me.

And I hope you will join me. You don’t need the perfect spreadsheet, the perfect app, or a perfect month to begin. You just need a willingness to look at your money and say, “Let’s figure this out.

At first, it might feel awkward – just like it feels to me now writing this first blog post. But over time, you find your rhythm. You discover what works for you. You make adjustments. And eventually, managing your money becomes second nature – something that empowers you instead of overwhelms you.

So if you are standing at the edge of budgeting and thinking, “I don’t know where to begin,” here’s your answer:

Just start.
